I'm so glad you decided to write about this! A lot of people want to look like celebrities but don't realize what it actually takes! Everyone definitely has their own style and own way of getting in shape and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.. It's sad to see that some people make the choice get slim in an unhealthy way! People come in different shapes and sizes, I think every one should find a happy medium where they can be healthy and happy with their body!

Love this!!

I think I'll pass on being paranoid about eating something other than rabbit food so my agent doesn't notice the pound I gained this week. Celebrities are obsessed with looking the thinnest, they don't necessarily care about the consequences. They might look great in an Oscar dress but what price did they pay to get there? In the past year, LeAnn Rimes has lost a significant amount of weight, overworking herself. When is it too much?

Life is so much easier as Jo/Jane, we just need to decide what is a good lifestyle we can maintain for the longhaul. Below is a link about LeAnn Rimes, decide for yourself.

I would just like to add a disclaimer to my post above. In no way do I want to offend anyone who is overweight, smokes or drinks. I did say this was a subjective post, so I would like to apologize if anyone takes offense to my posting. I don't think that "overweight" automatically means unhealthy; in fact, quite the opposite! A person's weight is merely a number and their lifestyle choices are what truly determine their health. Just wanted to throw that out there - I'm sorry if my post was taken in the wrong way by anyone!

Thanks for sharing your story Nick. So glad to hear about your and your brother's weight loss journey; running has turned so many people's lives around! For me, it works best to incorporate strength training on my off running days. You have to be careful with the legs, though, so they don't get overworked. I think the most important thing is to listen to your body and push yourself - just not too hard... :)

As a longtime distance runner and triathlete I tend to agree that the balance is the key.

Over the last 7 years of longer distance running (half marathon and up) I've lost 35 pounds. My brother has lost nearly 50 in 2 years - his secret, watching what he eats and running.

Weight loss certainly does happen with healthy eating habits, but it's a fairly simple equation. To loss weight, burn more calaries than you take in. Cardio helps burn calaries, so match it with a healthy diet and magically we have weight loss.

I certainly fall in the "I ran long today so I can eat all the things category" from time to time. Keeping an eye on that attitude seems to be the solution rather than scrapping the run.

Favorite quote "Call me crazy, but I’m going to stand by the CDC and disagree with Karas: get your 20-30 minutes of daily aerobic exercise."

My only thought on strength training is: Where to fit it in? I agree it's helpful, it's just the first thing cut from my training program when hours are tight - and they always seem to be tight.

Just keep running,
