Gift idea: Moji 360 Massager

With the holidays just around the corner, it is time to get crackin’ on gifts for the runner in your life. Over the next two months, I’ll be posting fun gadgets and toys–all available at Body N’ Sole, of course–that would make gifts for your favorite runner (or yourself).

This week’s gizmo is the Moji 360 Mini Massager. This portable massager has a flexible roller design, so it fits the contours of your sorest, tightest areas.

With a hand strap, you can really get in there work it out. The rollers move in all directions (Hence, the “360″ name.), and you can apply firm or light pressure where needed.

According to Body N’ Sole manager and our lovely model, Van Hartman, the 360 Mini Massager has been flying off the shelves. This may just be the best $29.95 you spend this season.

Maybe, though, your favorite runner is a tight-ass. Wait, I mean, maybe she/he has a tight-ass and needs a good massage! And maybe you’re close, but not that close so as to oblige him/her.

Fear not, reader! Let me introduce you to the full-size Moji 360 Massager ($59.95)!

Fusion to 5k-Part 9 (Just Add Water?)

After waiting three more weeks and continuing physical therapy twice a week my second attempt at running finally came. This time there were no mountains, forest fires, just 754 ft of sweet, humid central Illinois air. I completed the run, but the pain was coming back in my hamstring/glut insertion. I tried to push through the discomfort for the next two weeks but that only made things worse, so common sense finally kicked in and I stopped running and returned to the ranks of a Nordic walker.

Final Photos: The Septembeards

Readers, it is with great enthusiasm that I share the results of Body N’ Sole’s great Septembeards experiment 2012. It has been a few weeks since the October 1st shaving, and for the most part, I think the guys are glad to be rid of their for-charity facial hair. (“It gets hot!” said Randy.) Still, it was quite fun to watch, mostly because I didn’t have to worry about my own chin cloaked in follicular growth for an entire month.

But without further ado…[drum roll please]…here is the photographic evidence that Body  N’ Sole was a hairy place this September.

Fusion to 5k part 8 (Fire on the Mountain)

In less than 48 hours I was about to find out how it would feel to run again.
Flying into Denver’s airport on June 22nd, I couldn’t help but notice how dry things looked on the ground. On the drive down to Colorado Springs there were signs about banning fireworks and open fires due to the dry conditions. The hopes of getting a break from the Midwest heat for a few days was traded for temps in the 100s and dry air.

Wait, marathon training doesn’t make you skinny?

Last weekend, I went to Chicago and noticed a significant number of runners out in the late afternoon. What’s more, I saw a lot of runners sporting all sorts of fancy braces or straps to hold parts of their legs together. “Ah, that’s right” I thought, “It’s almost time for the Chicago Marathon.”

Yes, many runners (perhaps some of the readers) are in the last weeks of heavy duty training or have even entered the neurosis-inducing taper phase. I remember those days fondly–wondering where my bullet-proof motivation from the early weeks of the training cycle had gone and starting to check the weather compulsively for a meteorological blessing on race day.

You know what else I remember? Feeling heavy, and by “heavy,” I mean “fat” and “bloated.” Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. Despite all logic, marathon training can make you heavier, not lighter.

Savoy Orchard Days 5K, now with more Gangnam Style

Wow, has it already been a whole year since I yelled “You suck!!” at Van Hartman at the end of the Savoy Orchard Days 5K? After my out-of-shape summer, I am racing myself back into shape. Ooh, hardest finish in Champaign County? Please, I eat hills for breakfast. [Actually, I eat Grapenuts for breakfast.]

Beginner Running Programs: Go, go, go!

You may have missed it, but this summer, we were all treated to arguably the greatest reality TV show ever: The 2012 Summer Olympics. Sadly, track-and-field and the marathon aren’t really big events in Korea. Instead, I ended up watching a lot of judo and volleyball, as well as a few thrown badminton matches.

Nevertheless, even a small amount of Olympics coverage is enough to inspire my own dreams of gold medal glory. Sure, I may be short, stocky, and small-handed, but I’m pretty sure if I train hard enough, I’ll be able to achieve at least some measure of Michael Phelps’ success. Right? RIGHT?!? Even if that’s not true, one thing I love about the Olympics is that they inspire me to get off my butt and go do some physical activity. (Okay, sometimes they inspire me to sit on my butt and watch more Olympics.)

And you? You watched the Olympics and were inspired to start running.
